Nostalgic November Nights
November is for nostalgia. Itâs for the Ole Henriksen Creme Brulee Glimmer Lip Balm (not sponsored). November is for sitting with the loneliness and realizing that itâs okay to not be okay. Itâs for a caramel coffee and naps in the afternoon. November is for walks at dusk with a cool fall breeze. November is for a banging playlist to play as you experience all of these feelings.
1. Nowhere Man - The Beatles
âRubber Soulâ as a whole is the perfect album to listen to in the fall, but Nowhere Man provides some of the storytelling that fits in with a thoughtful walk around town that encapsulates the vibes of November.
2. Stick Season - Noah Kahan
Noah Kahanâs discography could honestly be the soundtrack for all of the -ber months, but to me the title track will just always transplant me to dreary November, with walks to and from class. The second I feel a brisk breeze, this song gets played.
3. Something in the Orange - Zach Bryan
This holds more nostalgia and memories for me than it probably does for others, but I think either way the rustic, almost painful, guitar line can set the perfect mood for late night deep thoughts. The Niall Horan cover is also a very good version if you are looking for something a little different than the original.
4. Thatâs So True - Gracie Abrams
On the full playlist thereâs other Gracie Abrams songs as well, but to me Thatâs So True will always remind me of November 2024, so when highlighting songs for a nostalgic playlist this will always make the cut.
5. The Great War - Taylor Swift
Fans of Taylor Swift know that there are multiple albums of herâs that just scream fall and âMidnightsâ just isnât one of those, but I believe that The Great War alone fits perfectly in this season. Itâs the song you play when walking home from a hangout with a situationship or that you play when contemplating every failed talking stage or relationship youâve encountered.
6. Take Me to Church - Hozier
The rich vocals of Hozier help pull the listener in, and once again maybe this song isnât a November song for everyone but it is for me. Itâs for the long drives at 5 p.m. when itâs already pitch black out. Itâs for staring out the window and wondering how the year could already be almost over. It sends you back to the first time you heard it, for me it was sixth grade and I can just picture driving around with my brother, with him replaying this song over and over again because of how much he loved it.
7. Where You Lead - Carole King
Itâs the theme song of Gilmore Girls for a reason. Itâs a little more upbeat than some of the previous songs but makes you want to frolic through the falling orange, red and brown leaves as you sip on a hot coffee or tea.
8. Sign of the Times - Harry Styles
Harry Stylesâ first solo project, the five and a half minute song is perfect for aimlessly staring at your ceiling at 11 p.m., but also perfect for a moment of remembrance as you drive past places that used to mean so much to you, that now you have no connection to at all.
9. Some Protector - Role Model
This song is for more than just Conrad Fisher edits. It can be gut wrenching, it can make you angry, it can make you miss someone you promised youâd never miss, but overall itâs just a great song.
10. Vienna - Billy Joel
Nobody, not a single soul can make people in their twenties contemplate their life quite like Billy Joel can. Vienna is the perfect song for November, to remind yourself that thereâs no time frame for what your life entails. Youâre not a failure if you havenât accomplished some of the goals you made at the beginning of the year. The end of the year isnât scary, it just makes a new chapter to try, fail and succeed. Itâs the perfect song for November because it can fit any mood you have in the month full of change.
11. Lacy - Olivia Rodrigo
Lacy is for those who claim they donât judge, those who say that theyâre happy with who they are, but always find themselves looking at others wishing they had something they did. Itâs for November simply because it can be.
12. Couldnât Make It Any Harder - Sabrina Carpenter
Couldnât Make It Any Harder is for the people who have been through a heartbreak that changed them internally, whether itâs a romantic one, friendship or family. Heartbreak changes you as a person, and affects how you interact in similar situations. Since November is the perfect month for nostalgia and reflection, itâs the perfect time to listen to this song and think about how much you have changed over time.
13. Walking in the Wind - One Direction
At this point, any One Direction song screams nostalgia and honestly makes me sad. Walking in the Wind though does it on a completely different level. From the bandâs final album, itâs been interpreted by fans to be a goodbye to Zayn after he left the band. More recently itâs been a goodbye to Liam after his death. Whether youâre a fan of One Direction or not, lyrically this song is yet another perfect song for self reflection especially during the colder months when you really are walking in the wind.
14. Ghost of You - 5 Seconds of Summer
In case you havenât figured it out by now, in November I love listening to sad-ish songs. Laying in bed overthinking everything that has ever happened in my life, or blasting music on a walk as I remember how life was last year. Ghost of You is the perfect song to listen to as you do mundane tasks and think about how much has changed in the last year.
15. The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - Gordon Lightfoot
This one doesnât necessarily fit in with the rest of the songs on the playlist, but this historical event happened on November 10th making it a song you should listen to this month, while also doing research on shipwrecks in the Great Lakes (a fascinating topic)
